Can I use an anti snoring mouthpiece as a CPAP alternative?

Unfortunately less than half of all CPAP users can tolerate this option to control their sleep apnea.  If you are currently struggling to use CPAP then a mouthpiece that moves your lower jaw and tongue forward to open the airway may be a solution.

But not all mouthpieces are created equal.  A mouthpiece that stops snoring may or may not control your apnea.  The reason comes down to finding that optimal lower jaw position that moves the tongue away from both the palate and back wall of the airway enough to eliminate sleep apnea.

Most anti snoring mouthpieces found online are a one-size-fits-all product and cannot be adjusted to find that optimal position to open your airway enough to stop sleep apnea.  These types of devices move your jaw forward about 50% of your maximum forward jaw position.  This amount of forward positioning or mandibular advancement usually only opens the airway completely for about 35-40% of the people who use that type of device.

And if you do find one of these one-size-fits-all devices stops your snoring, it is possible that your tongue may still be blocking the back wall of the airway enough that you still would suffer from sleep apnea.

Anti-snoring mouthpieces that are adjustable, like the Ultimate Stop Snoring Solution, move your lower jaw forward in small increments, up to 80% of your maximum forward position.  By moving the jaw forward in steps and bringing it farther forward, there is a much greater chance that you can successfully control your sleep apnea by getting the tongue away from the back wall of the airway.

Similar to lab fabricated mouthpieces made by dentists to stop snoring and control sleep apnea, the Ultimate Stop Snoring Solution should be evaluated with pulse oximetry (to check oxygen levels while you sleep) and ultimately checked with a sleep study.  Sleep apnea can be a serious medical condition and it is important that you discuss using a mouthpiece for your apnea with your physician so that follow up testing can be done.
